FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How often do I need a routine eye exam?

A: It is recommended that you have a comprehensive, dilated eye exam every 1 to 2 years, based on your eye doctor’s recommendation.

Q: How long will my visit take?

A: A routine eye exam typically takes between a half an hour and an hour, depending on the complexity of the exam and the length of time required to choose eyeglasses.

Q: Will my eyes be dilated?

A: For a comprehensive, complete eye exam, your eyes must be dilated to properly evaluate the health of your eye and to obtain the most accurate eyeglass prescription. The dilation drop typically takes between 15-20 minutes to fully take effect, and will last for several hours after your visit.

Q: Can I drive after my visit?

A: When your eyes are dilated, you will be extremely light sensitive and it is recommended you wear protective eyewear when outside. Your near vision will also be affected, and will be a bit blurry until the drops wear off. While typically a patient should be able to drive after their visit, please use caution and proceed at your own comfort level. If you feel uncomfortable driving while dilated, please make accommodations to have a driver available to you.
